This Month in The Park and Bottoms

Tom King Half Marathon

The annual Tom King Half Marathon will take place in Shelby Park and Bottoms this Saturday, February 29. The race starts and ends at Cornelia Fort Airport. Roads in the historic park will be closed to cars until 12 pm. Limited access for the Nature Center and ball fields will be permitted from the Riverside Drive entrance only.

Nature Watch

The birding is fabulous in the park this time of year. Seen on a walk today - cardinals, blue birds and hawks. Check out this amazing shot on an American goldfinch taken by Toby Cantrell.

Park Funding

It is budget time in Nashville. Let your council members know that you support full operational funding for Metro Parks and that you support Mayor Cooper's Capital Spending Plan, which proposes nearly $3 million in funding for infrastructure improvements for Davidson Street in Shelby Park. Shelby Park and Bottoms is the 3rd largest park in Nashville and a resource for our entire county. At 108 years old, the park is in critical need of repair to basic facilities like road and bridges.

Picnic Shelter Reservations

Birthday parties, family reunions, or company picnics - Shelby Park has a shelter for you. Reservations can be made year round for the months of April through October. Call 615-862-8408 to make your reservation.

Volunteering

February Tree Planting a Success!

On February 8 we planted trees and mulched near the new Cornelia Fort Playground. The trees to shade the playground were too large for volunteers and will be planted soon by Metro Parks. Thanks to everyone who participated - it was our largest group yet.

The next opportunity to support the park is March 14. Sign up today.
