PARKS Build Community

At Friends of Shelby, we believe parks are more than green space — they’re community space. Through free, low‑barrier programs in Shelby Park and Bottoms, we create welcoming opportunities for neighbors to move, create, and connect. Whether someone joins us for fitness, creativity, or simply fun, these experiences help people feel at home in the park and inspired to return.

Access is at the heart of this work. All programs are free, open to all ability levels, and include any needed materials or equipment. This ensures that everyone — regardless of background or income — can take part and belong.

Community Gatherings

In addition to ongoing programs, we host seasonal gatherings like the Recreation Open House and Back‑to‑School Popsicle Party. These events are designed to welcome new park users, connect families to resources, and celebrate the shared joy of community space.
