This year, we're working to revitalize and grow Shelby Bottoms Nature Play and introduce a new shade pavilion. Thanks to a generous donor who shares our passion for connecting youth and families with nature, we're already two-thirds of the way to our $150K goal!
Now is the time to give back! We need to raise an additional $50,000 to complete our goal including a new shade pavilion. Thanks to an additional donor, now through May 10, your donation will be matched to a total of $25,000.
Your contribution, regardless of its size, plays a vital role in bringing this amazing project to life.

Nurture Future Nature Lovers
Nestled on the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center Campus, our current play space has been a joyful place for families and children of all ages to experience unstructured, imaginative play in nature since 2012. Due to age and increased use from families across the county, nature play needs repairs, upgrades, additional features, and more space! The 2024 Great Shelby Giveback campaign is raising money for enhancing and expanding our beloved nature playground!
Now, we're embarking on an exciting journey to take our playground to the next level, creating an even more enriching environment where children can connect with nature, unleash their creativity, and foster a deeper sense of exploration.
Expand the existing playground to accommodate more children and diverse play experiences.
Integrate sustainable and natural elements to highlight the unique ecology of Shelby Bottoms.
Inclusion of both open play for small children and expansion into wooded areas for more independent play.
Create interactive and imaginative spaces that encourage open-ended play and collaboration.
Foster community engagement through volunteer opportunities.
Addition of large trees to provide shade and benefit stormwater.
Construction of a new pavilion accessible from Nature Play and the Nature Center’s great lawn.
